The Csokonai National Theatre is the first stone theatre in Debrecen. 

The romantic-style theatre, which contains Moorish and Byzantine elements, was built between 1861-65 according to the designs of the Pest architect Antal Szkalnitzky, and its ceremony was on the 7th October 1865
